Live Presentation with Fizah Malik

We are delighted to welcome Fizah Malik to the Textile Design Lab!

On Tuesday, May 19th at 12:30pm Eastern Fizah will share, “the ins and outs of working as a freelance designer for design studios; how to decide if working for design studios is the right choice for you and since there are so many design studios out there, how do you decide which one is the right fit.

The students can learn about some of the terms and conditions of design studios, and the financial aspects of working with them.

I’ll also discuss how to be more productive as a freelancer and some of the pros and cons of this career choice.”

Upcoming Event: TDL Coloring Hour

Thanks to everyone who joined us last week for our first TDL Coloring Hour. It was a wonderful chance to come together and chat about life and art! Please join us this Wednesday, May 20th at 1pm Eastern for our another coloring event.

Remember, you are welcome to work on your own art project during this time or you can use the downloadable coloring sheet that will be sent out on Wednesday morning.

Speedy Design Challenge: Good Vibes

Need design inspiration? Check out our latest Speedy Design Challenge.

The goal of this design challenge is to train yourself to design in a more efficient manner, much like you might experience if you worked as an in-house designer. It’s also an opportunity to focus on completing a pattern within a certain time frame, allowing you to let go of the pattern being perfect and spending days moving pixels around and around. Just get it done! LOL!

Chelsea’s Challenge: A Creative Excursion with Rita Patel

This month we are thrilled to have Rita Patel taking the helm of Chelsea’s Challenge by sharing her fabulous Creative Excursion exercise! If you missed her presentation, please check it out here–it’s super inspiring and will walk you through the steps needed to get started with this challenge–picking a piece of art and an “evocative word” or quality that you want to cultivate.

As with all Chelsea’s Challenges, you will end up with a completed pattern collection, but I think you will also find this practice to be a therapeutic way to spend the month and a boost for your mental health as well, especially during these trying times. It’s a practice that can be revisited time and time again and I love that it blends art and design with mindfulness and a focus on wellbeing.

Learn how to get involved here.

April Illustrator Live with Laura Coyle
