Design Challenge: Kitchen Textiles
We are back to our regularly scheduled programming for this month’s Chelsea’s Challenge, no client requests or studio briefs! 😉 Michelle had the fun idea to focus on a specific product for this month’s challenge. Kitchen towels and linens are such a fun opportunity to explore various motifs, colors, and techniques, and allow lots of room for your own personality and artistic style!
In this robust post you’ll find helpful tips from our TDL team, links to tutorials and courses and two trends that we think are a perfect fit for this market!
If you wish to take part in just the Chelsea’s Challenge, you can read more HERE.
Art of Portfolio Curation Group Study
Deciding what artwork to show isn’t always easy, but having a system enables you to make more confident decisions.
In the Art of Portfolio Curation the Textile Design Lab team shares the exercises and techniques that they use to curate their artwork and see the “holes” in their portfolios.
The course is already posted to the Lab, but signing up for the group-study gives you access to bonus emails. It’s a fun way to stay motivated and work with a supportive group of TDL members!
This event is FREE for all Textile Design Lab members and the first email will be released on Monday, April 15th. Members register here.
Recording Posted: Guest Expert Ana Davis
A fine artist by education, Ana got her feet wet in the professional world at a children’s book publisher, where whimsy and playfulness filled her days (and her heart) for many years. The result is a traditionally trained painter with a well-honed eye for fun. Ana’s patterns are inspired by architectural details and vintage elements. Humor peppers her work, as do flowers, bunnies, and rainbows.
In addition to her fabrics, gifts, and home decor products, Ana develops bespoke products for high-end retailers. Branded lines of tabletop and glassware are headed to stores near you this spring and summer.
Ana recently spoke with our TDL community about the benefits of having a style guide and how this process has affected her licensing business. Members can access the recording here.
Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM EDT for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed the morning of the critique and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
