Chelsea’s Challenge: Maximalist Interiors

This month’s Chelsea’s Challenge focuses on interiors with a “bold, maximalist design approach” that WGSN has shown to be trending in multiple reports.

As a lover of all things pattern I am so excited about this trend after what seems like years of minimalism being front and center. Maximalism can certainly feel overwhelming, and there is a thin line between “just right” and “yikes, too much,” but I think with the right mix of scale, color and texture, a “mish-mash” approach to pattern can allow a very rich personal style and artistic expression to emerge.

I hope this month’s challenge will allow you to explore a wide range of historical references and current color/pattern trends to create something truly unique to you–a collection that will blow print buyers away!!! Get started here.

New post from Laura Coyle

I’m looking forward to the next Illustrator session on Tuesday March 23rd at 11 AM EDT!

If you missed my demo on the new Repeats feature in Illustrator (same as the iPad) with my demo of the Space Fill plugin, the video is here: https://legacy.textiledesignlab.com/illustrators-new-repeat-tool-laura-coyle/

There were so many great suggestions from my last request, so I am going to plan on covering something from my suggestion box: either Graphic Styles, Symbols (for efficiency, time saving), more plugins, exporting/changing sizes, Capture (which has a new pattern feature) – some combination of these. I will post a follow up here soon.

I’m always interested to hear what you are wanting to learn. Please post your ideas here.
