Women’s Activewear Group Study

Take your textile design work to a new level of mastery with this high value, hands-on course. Through a series of creative exercises and interaction with our team of experienced designers, you’ll explore the women’s activewear market.

The course will be posted to the Lab on Monday, March 19th, but signing up for the group-study gives you access to bonus emails and WGSN. It’s a fun way to stay motivated and work with a supportive group of TDL members!

This event is FREE for all Textile Design Lab members and the first email will be released on Monday, March 19th. Members register here.

Chelsea’s Challenge: Asymmetry

As I was checking out the Fall 2018 runway shows recently I was really inspired by all the asymmetry that I saw in the garment construction. For this month’s challenge we hope you will take this theme of asymmetry and run with it, using our three trend boards as inspiration:

1) Plaids and detailed geometrics

2) Bohemian inspired

3) Very clean geometric shapes and bright colors

Members can get started here.

New to the Lab: Open Office Hours

You might have noticed that the Lab is a buzz with activity right now! With our Surtex briefs ramping up, and more opportunities on the way I will be holding open “Office Hours” for the next few weeks. These office hours will take place every Tuesday at a different time. I hope that the time variations will allow those of you in different time zones to participate.

Bring whatever questions, projects, pattern or sketches that you need help with. I’ll be hanging out in my Zoom room during these office hours, happy to help you in whatever way you need. I am leaving the schedule open right now, so when you enter the Zoom room you might be the only one present at that particular moment, or there might be a large group – we’ll see!

The Zoom link and scheduled Office Hour times can be under “Upcoming Events” on your Member Dashboard. I’ll also be sending out this information through email and Facebook Messenger.

This week’s Open Office is Tuesday, March 13th at 2pm Eastern. Grab the link here.

Jessica will be sharing her tips for designing for wallpaper on Tuesday, March 27th in the Textile Design Lab, and you can learn more about her work and her thoughts on the wallpaper industry here.

Remember to mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 27th at 10am Eastern!

Design Opportunity with Pattern Observer Studio – Florals for Surtex!

We are so pleased to announce that Chelsea and I will be attending SURTEX for the first time this coming May, and we’ll be bringing a select amount of Textile Design Lab member artwork along with us!

This is going to be an exceptional experience, as we will be able to present some of our members’ artwork to the buyers and licensees attending the show and also have the opportunity to meet so many people within the community which we hope will lead to future opportunities for our members as well.

Would you like us to take your work to the show? You can read more about this opportunity here.

Weekly Art Critique Please join Michelle for our live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
