Upcoming Event: Branding Group-Study
The response from our 2019 Summer of Creativity was so positive that we have turned much of the content into a new branding course!
In this Group-Study you’ll explore your brand identity and create pattern collections that tell your unique story. This is done through a thoughtful, pro-growth itinerary and series of high-value tutorials.
The Group-Study starts on January 13, 2020 and is free for Textile Design Lab members.

Recording: Adobe Textile Designer with Sherry London
As part of our Photoshop for Designers I & II group-studies, Sherry London graciously offered to host two live Q&A events for our Textile Design Lab members.
In this second session Sherry covered Adobe Textile Designer and showed us how this powerful tool can be used to turn a group of motifs into a repeating pattern.
Chelsea’s Challenge: The Twenties
It’s no surprise with the decade nearing an end and the start of the ’20s on the horizon that signs of a 1920s style renaissance abound–velvet, feathers, fringe, sequins and intricate beading are all over the Pre-Fall 2020 runways! Mary Katrantzou, Valentino, Giorgio Armani and many other recent runway shows are a great starting point for some high-fashion inspiration and showcase some playful examples of giving this trend a fresh, modern spin–these aren’t your grandma’s flappers!
As you design you might look to classic Art Deco design icons like chevrons, diamonds and fan shapes, or simple, graphic, two-color florals. The V&A Museum is a great resource to search for authentic designs from the 1920’s, and then to give your own spin on them to bring them into 2020. You can also read more about Art Deco in this Pattern Observer post.
Feel free to incorporate New Year’s themes into your collection as well if that direction feels inspiring to you–think fireworks, sparklers, champagne, confetti, etc. Have fun and don’t be afraid to make this a glitzy, glamorous and festive collection!
