Upcoming Event: January Kickoff
You’re invited to our TDL kickoff for the month of January! It is scheduled for Monday, January 4th at 1pm Eastern. This is the first time we have held a community gathering such as this and I hope that it will be an inspiring way to start the month and year.
We’ll start the meeting with a short meditation, followed by a short exercise to help get us focused for the new year. We will then discuss upcoming events in the Lab and there will be time for sharing and questions.
A zoom link will be sent out on the morning of the event and the event will be recorded.
Chelsea’s Challenge: A New Approach
To celebrate the new year, this month Chelsea is trying a personal approach to Chelsea’s Challenge. “The challenge starts with reflecting on your artistic habits, your go-to motifs and techniques, and what leaves you feeling stalled or stuck. There’s no better time than the end of one year and the start of the next to reflect on these things, and you may find this challenge useful in tandem with our Pattern Planning and Goal Setting course.”

Recording Posted: New Recolor Artwork Tool
For December’s session Laura gave us a tour of the NEW Recolor Artwork feature in Adobe Illustrator. “This feature was updated in the newest version of Illustrator (2021) that was released last month at Adobe MAX, and allows you to sample colors from images in your document. The new feature is really fun to work with, and Adobe left all of the original panels intact as well, so we still have the original controls for Recolor Artwork.”

Last Tuesday we kicked off our new monthly presentations with Sherry London! In this first presentation she showed us how we can use Photoshop’s new Pattern Preview tool to create half-drop repeats. The recording can be found here.

Textile Prints with Fizah Malik: Non Prints
We are thrilled to announce that we just released a new tutorial in the Lab by the fabulous Fizah Malik!
This is the third in a series of tutorials that she has created for the Lab that will be released over the next few months. In this tutorial Fizah shares her technique for creating non prints.

Our TDL Video Chat room will now be open all day, everyday. Feel free to stop by while you are working on a project or to simply chat with your fellow members!
In the future we might need to have specific meeting times, but I wanted to open this opportunity up to people across various time zones and with different schedules.

Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed the morning of the critique and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
