Upcoming Event: Presentation from MaryJane Mitchell
Instead of having a “guest” expert this month, we are delighted to announce that MaryJane Mitchell will be hosting a training for Textile Design Lab members on Tuesday, December 18th at 1pm EST.
MaryJane will be discussing designing other products from your textile designs or collections. You’ll discover how you can use fabrics that you have designed to create other products from the designs, such as journals, gift bags, paper products, dinnerware.
This event is free for members and a registration link can be found here. A recording will also be posted to the TDL.
New Design Challenge: Holiday MemoriesIt’s become a bit of a tradition here in the Lab to do a holiday-themed Chelsea’s Challenge each December, as it’s often where most of our heads are at anyway 😉 We have covered so many trends for Christmas that we decided to step away from trends for this challenge and focus on unique stories that TDL members have to tell.Close your eyes and try to remember the special moments that stand out from Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, or other winter holidays in the past. Can you bring to mind a particular food or drink, article of clothing, decoration, or family tradition that made the holiday especially memorable?
If you prefer, another option for this challenge would be to imagine what your celebrations in the future might look like. Perhaps if you always travel to see family, you could imagine what a holiday celebration might look like if you were the one to host. Read more about this month’s design challenge here.
New TDL Team PageA Textile Design Lab member requested that we add a more detailed team page and we thought it was a fantastic idea! As the Textile Design Lab has grown and evolved one of our goals has been to create a team with diverse experiences and areas of expertise. For example, I have extensive experience in the apparel marketplace, but the worlds of licensing and stationery are new to me. Luckily, we have TDL experts such as Melissa and MaryJane to guide us through these markets!

Update to 2019 Schedule!
Hello! We are pleased to release our schedule for the first six months of 2019! All events listed here are free for Textile Design Lab members. In addition to the group-studies listed below, we will also be releasing new challenges, tutorials, and guest expert training throughout the year. Remember, all of our courses are available to work through at anytime. Our Group-Studies are a chance for us to work through one course together as a community.

Weekly Art Critique. Please join MaryJane Mitchell for this week’s live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM EST. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
