The newest Chelsea’s Challenge is now available and we hope it will be a fun one! For the month of November we will be focusing in on the childrenswear market, with trends pulled from WGSN’s Kids’ Prints & Graphics Forecasts for Spring/Summer 2024. These three trends offer colorful, joyful design inspiration and may be used independently or combined together to form one cohesive pattern collection. Check out the full post HERE to learn more about these playful kidswear trends.

Upcoming Event: Exploring Photoshop with Sherry London

Sherry just finished her third presentation on using smart objects for motifs and pattern preview mode. The most recent one explained how to make a half drop repeat in pattern preview mode, in order to do this you need to download recommended files here that go along with this presentation. Sherry’s September topic was information on smart objects and an intro to the pattern preview mode. You can watch the recording here. In Sherry’s August covered “From scanned image to Pattern Motifs”—How to prep non-destructively so you can repurpose motifs easily.  This tutorial is a great refresher for using layer masks and smart objects on artwork you are editing. Sherry’s next talk will be November 21st at 11am ESTFind the recording with this link.  If you have questions you can ask them in the tech talk forum and tag @prancingpixel Have a topic that you would like discussed in an upcoming presentation? Current Course: Trend Board Exploration

For two weeks in November (the 7th-18th) we will explain how to make and use trend boards to organize your ideas for a collection, clarify your brand, or pitch a concept to a client. This course includes month long access to WGSN and we will show you everything you need to know to use WGSN to research trends and incorporate them skillfully into your personal style. Then we will send out design briefs based on real companies where you can design a trend board you would pitch to this client to practice this part of the design process.

Recording Posted: Illustrator Live with Laura Coyle

In October’s Illustrator Live, Laura wrapped up her talk on work flows between Adobe Fresco and Adobe Illustrator for the iPad, half of this presentation occurred last month before an iPad glitch made her reschedule the rest, watch the September recording here. In October’s talk she spoke more on Fresco work flows and also introduced Intertwine which is a fabulous new feature in Illustrator that allows you to mix the stacking order of overlapping images very easily, this new feature will be great for complex, overlapping pattern designs. Watch October’s talk here. Her next talk will be November 29th at 11am EST.  If you have suggestions/questions for future sessions, please add them to this thread.  You can ask her questions by tagging @laurac

Opportunity: Designer Feature on the Pattern Observer blog!

We love to feature our TDL members on the Pattern Observer blog and our social media accounts. If you are interested in a feature, please fill out every answer on this form. If your submission is accepted we will reach out to you with a publishing date.  We are also interested in sharing videos on social media, since they are all the rage these days…so if you want to create a short video for social media of your artwork/portfolio, an animation of your art, or working in your studio, that would be great as well, but not necessary for a feature. A good length is around 6-60 seconds. You can easily make something on your phone these days or in Adobe Express.
