June Design Challenge: Land, Air and Sea

I am so excited for this month’s challenge!! When Michelle and I were at Surtex last month we spoke to a number of brands from markets as varied as accessories, bedding, women’s apparel, quilting fabric, and classroom decor, all of whom were interested in seeing conversational patterns. Animal patterns were a particular standout in terms of what people were looking for, so I thought it would be great to capitalize on that for this month’s Chelsea’s Challenge and encourage Lab members to develop a collection based around animals, birds, or sea creatures.

You can read the full design challenge here.

Grab Your Spot: Print Studio Workgroup

Is your portfolio finalized and are you ready to apply to print studios? We’re here to help!

From Monday, June 11th- Friday, July 6th the TDL is running its second Print Studio Workgroup. This group will meet once a week for four weeks and will walk you step-by-step through the process of reaching out to print studios for representation.
There will be a short presentation at the beginning of each session with time for questions. Discussions will take place throughout the week on our forum. All sessions will be recorded and posted to the Lab.
The only requirements are that you 1) are a current TDL member and 2) that you have an online portfolio that you are ready to show to print studios! Members can register here.

Upcoming Event: Summer of Creativity

Do your patterns always seem to fall short of your vision? Before long you start doubting your work, trying too hard to make something happen, and eventually you end up losing interest in the entire project. It doesn’t have to be this way.

In this 7-week course we’re sharing the exercises and techniques we use to bring our vision to life and create the patterns we see in our mind’s eye. Our Textile Design Lab team is always experimenting and coming up with “go-to techniques” that make our work appeal to clients and buyers. We know these techniques will do the same for you!

This event is FREE for TDL members and starts on July 16, 2018. Mark your calendars!

Weekly Art Critique Please join Michelle Fifis for our live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM EDT. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
