New Chelsea’s Challenge: Mysticism
Since so many of you are taking part in designing patterns for our SURTEX briefs, we thought it would be a good idea to pair up this month’s Chelsea’s Challenge with one of our Autumn briefs: Mysticism. While you certainly don’t have to submit the patterns you create in this challenge to our studio, we wanted this to be an option and a way for you to dive more deeply into this theme. You are still welcome to use this month’s challenge for its usual purpose, as a way to develop a cohesive collection of 3-5 patterns for your portfolio!
Visit the Idea Station or click on this link to get involved with the challenge.
Wallpaper with Jessica Wilde
Last week we welcomed Jessica Wilde to the Lab for our monthly guest expert training event. You can find the recording posted here. In this hour long training Jessica discussed designing for the wallpaper industry, and it was SO GOOD, you won’t want to miss it! Jessica is an experienced surface pattern designer and you can read more about her in our interview on the Pattern Observer blog.
Design Opportunity with Pattern Observer Studio – Autumn Patterns for Surtex!
We are so pleased to announce that Chelsea and I will be attending SURTEX for the first time this coming May, and we’ll be bringing a select amount of Textile Design Lab member artwork along with us!
This is going to be an exceptional experience, as we will be able to present some of our members’ artwork to the buyers and licensees attending the show and also have the opportunity to meet so many people within the community which we hope will lead to future opportunities for our members as well.
Would you like us to take your work to the show? You can read more about our new brief here.
Weekly Art Critique Please join Michelle for our live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
