Hello there Lab members!
We are thrilled to kick off this week with our Surface Pattern Design Mastery Group-Study (which starts on Monday!) and our new design challenge, “Recycle.” You’ll find links to all these events below, but before you get to those goodies I encourage you to check out this tagging video that Chelsea created. This quick video will show you how to tag fellow Textile Design Lab members on the forum so you can reach out to your friends or our team for questions, comments or requests.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we can’t wait to see what you create this week!
Mark your calendars!
Our Surface Pattern Design Mastery Group-Study starts on February 5, 2018. In this course you’ll learn how to turn your sketches, paintings and illustrations into surface pattern design layouts in both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. You’ll also have free access to WGSN, the industry’s leading resource for trends and design direction.
Chelsea’s Challenge: Recycle
This month’s theme is all about recycling–reworking old prints or creating patterns to be pieced together and used in unexpected ways. We provide two different directions for you to take, but there are so many different ways to run with this theme. This is a fun opportunity to create something new, or use that pattern that was too difficult to put into repeat or that you could never figure out the right layout.
This month let’s come together as a group and design for the children’s market. We have provided two playful color palettes, though as always, these are provided as a jumping off point and it is not required that you use them.
New Guest Expert Training: How to Find New Clients (and Get More Work) by Sew Heidi
We are excited to welcome guest expert Sew Heidi back to the Lab for an informative 24 minute training video on finding new clients and getting more work, something most of us are always looking for.
In this video, Heidi covers:
- 4 places (you never thought of) to find new clients
- what to say if you meet someone at an industry event or mixer (so you can follow up later to ask for work)
- word for word email scripts you can customize to reach out to brands (even if they don’t know you)
Weekly Art Critique Please join Michelle for our live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
