New Design Challenge: Romantic Fall
Back to school is over and as Fall starts to set in and things slow down there is much inspiration to be had. For this challenge we were inspired by the transition of plants, trees, and entire landscapes from their summer greens to rich autumnal palettes. Temperatures may be dropping yet warmth is evoked by feelings of coziness, nostalgia, and romance.
We are offering up four different directions for this challenge–you may find it easiest to create a collection of patterns based on just one of these boards, but pulling elements from more than one board to customize the theme of your collection is also an option. For those of you who want more direction, Michelle will also be posting weekly design prompts to the Chelsea’s Challenge forum every Monday.
Want to continue the marketing conversation?
Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to welcome Chris Olson to the Lab to discuss social media marketing. Members can watch the recording of her presentation, as well as a recording of a previous presentation that Chris gave, here.
On Tuesday, October 31st at 1pm Eastern, I am going to continue the marketing conversation by showing members a demonstration of how I have been using Later, a social media scheduling application. I have only been using the app for a few weeks, but I love it and I think many of you will find it to be helpful. Members can register for this live event here.
Design Opportunity with Pattern Observer Studio
We are calling on interested TDL members to create Easter and Valentine’s designs primarily for kids’ home goods, and selected designs will be shown as part of the Pattern Observer Studio collection in a virtual meeting with our client in late November. This is for a mass-market retailer who wants to see cute conversational patterns (cute characters like bunnies, baskets, hearts, etc.) for the Spring ’19 season. These prints will be used on home goods like tablecloths, napkins, kitchen towels, odds and ends, etc. and geared toward children. If “cute” is just not a style you are comfortable working in, we encourage you to work in your own style and we can present some designs that are slightly more sophisticated on the Easter and Valentine’s themes.
