Design-Opportunity-TDLDesign Opportunity with Pattern Observer Studio

We are delighted to be able to offer something new to the Textile Design Lab community. Michelle is taking a sales trip next month for Pattern Observer Studio and she would love to present the work of TDL members alongside the work of the studio designers.

We are putting out a call to TDL members to create designs for the men’s swim and active markets, and selected designs will be shown as part of the Pattern Observer Studio collection. This is for a mass-market retailer who wants to see hand rendered Hawaiian tropical and conversational patterns for the Spring ’19 season.

Photoshop-for-Designers-LabGrab Your Spot: Photoshop for Designers 1 & 2

Our popular Photoshop for Designers 1 & 2 courses are now moving into the Textile Design Lab!

They will both be added to the Lab on September 11th and will be free for members. We’re thrilled to be bringing these in depth Photoshop courses into the Lab and Sherry London, our resident Photoshop expert will be there to assist members with any questions that they have along the way.

Photoshop for Designers 1 is an intensive course, so we recommend starting with that course and then taking Photoshop for Designers 2 when it runs again in November.

Conceal-and-Reveal-Design-ChallengeDesign Challenge: Conceal/Reveal

This month we are diving into the theme of camouflage in its many forms, with the goal being to develop a collection of 3-5 patterns for the Spring/Summer ’19 season. While working on this trend, think about ways of concealing or revealing different elements of your designs to produce a camouflaged effect (one technique that is great for this is using resist to block off areas of your page.)

Michelle pinpointed four directions for this trend, of which you might choose to take on one, two, or three of the boards, or tackle them all as a group. The end result we are aiming for is a cohesive pattern collection, but feel free to use this inspiration however it suits you!

Weekly Art Critique

Don’t forget to join us for our live art critique held this THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and a link can also be found in our Weekly Art Critique forum.

Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
