Heather-Powers-TDLUnderstanding the Basics of Carpet & Rug Design with Heather Powers

Each month we welcome a guest expert into the Textile Design Lab to share an exclusive training with our members. This is such a vast industry, covering so many markets and specialties, and we love hearing from various experts and learning from their years of experience.

This month we are thrilled to welcome Heather Powers, a talented rug designer and creative organizer. In this in depth training Heather shares a strong basic understanding of what you will need to know to design for a variety of carpet and rug constructions. You’ll also have access to a free downloadable terminology guide and Heather’s list of industry resources. This training is FREE for Lab members.

TDL-Activate-Design-ChallengeDesign Challenge: Activate

Most often with Chelsea’s Challenge we invite you to develop a pattern collection geared toward any market of your choosing, but every so often we like to switch things up and focus on a particular market. This month we are excited to delve into the activewear market for the Spring/Summer ’19 season. Here are each of the three directions:

1) Hiding in Plain Sight – Explore the juxtaposition between natural and urban environments by playing with layering.
2) Sporty – This bold, graphic trend takes classic sports pieces and reworks them in a sophisticated palette.
3) Soft Nature – With a color palette featuring desert-inspired hues, this trend draws inspiration from travels, extreme terrains, and weathered environments.

Summer of Creativity-Textile Design LabLAST DAY TO JOIN! Summer of Creativity

Do your patterns always seem to fall short of your vision? Before long you start doubting your work, trying too hard to make something happen, and eventually you end up losing interest in the entire project. It doesn’t have to be this way.

In this 7-week course we’re sharing the exercises and techniques we use to bring our vision to life and create the patterns we see in our mind’s eye. Our Textile Design Lab team is always experimenting and coming up with “go-to techniques” that make our work appeal to clients and buyers. We know these techniques will do the same for you!

We ran this course last year and it was a hit! This year we have 7 NEW tutorials for you, as well as new design challenges and events. This event is FREE for TDL members and you can register here.

Weekly Art Critique

Don’t forget to join us for our live art critiques held every Thursday at 1pm Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. Registration links are emailed out every Thursday morning and a link can also be found in our Weekly Art Critique forum.
