Please enjoy this week’s TDL News!!
With this month’s challenge we are moving on to the Spring ’19 season with florals! Michelle detected 3 inspiring trends for florals:
1) Subtle, monotone florals with pops in some or all of the ground or motifs. Try playing with pencil shading, simplified floral silhouettes, and layers of foliage to achieve this look.
2) Digital/space inspired florals with a feminine tech look. This trend is sleek, but still soft and feminine. Check out Shyanne Clarke’s guest expert training for some ideas to get started.
3) Large scale florals are a bolder direction, with inspiration to be found in retro ’60’s and ’70’s fabrics as well as more modern interpretations. You might choose to go for a clean vector or experiment with something more textural using stamps or incorporating the cut and paste trend.
Recording Posted: Creating Adire Designs
Last week designer Maria Ogedengbe showed us how to work with a wax pen to create a series of adire designs in Adobe Photoshop and various ways of telling stories through our pattern work.
Maria Ogedengbe earned her MFA from Yale University School of Art in Painting/Printmaking. Her studio, ESTUDIO mariaurora, is located in Kansas City’s West Bottoms. She has completed projects and residencies in Mexico, Spain, and Nigeria – including hands-on research in textile arts in Lagos and Abeokuta. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held in galleries at the University of Lagos, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo in Oaxaca, Mexico, among other venues.

Upcoming Event: Summer of Creativity
Do your patterns always seem to fall short of your vision? Before long you start doubting your work, trying too hard to make something happen, and eventually you end up losing interest in the entire project. It doesn’t have to be this way.
In this 7-week course we’re sharing the exercises and techniques we use to bring our vision to life and create the patterns we see in our mind’s eye. Our Textile Design Lab team is always experimenting and coming up with “go-to techniques” that make our work appeal to clients and buyers. We know these techniques will do the same for you!
We ran this course last year and it was a hit! This year we have 7 NEW tutorials for you, as well as new design challenges and events. This event is FREE for TDL members and a registration link will be sent out prior to the start date. The course runs from July 17-September 1, 2017.
