Chelsea’s Challenge: Holiday Giftwrap
Chelsea’s back with another inspiring design challenge!
This month we thought it would be fun to work together on preparing some patterns for Minted’s upcoming holiday giftwrap challenge. Submissions won’t be open on Minted until later this month (see their estimated challenge calendar) but we can get a jump-start and get ourselves into the holiday mindset! We’ll be using WGSN-recommended trends for Christmas & Holiday A/W 22/23, just keep in mind certain tweaks might need to be made based on what Minted is looking for.
Please join us today, Monday May 10th at 11am Eastern for a new presentation by Michelle Fifis.
Michelle will be discussing various ways of creating pattern collections and looking at different workflow options.
This event will be recorded and available for all to watch in the Lab.
She has also scheduled two follow up session. The first will be on Thursday, May 13th at 11am Eastern and the second will be on Wednesday May 19th at 1pm Eastern.
May Goals Check-InEach month we come together as a community to check-in with our progress and offer support to one another. There is no lesson during this hour long session, but an opportunity to share, listen and brainstorm ideas!

In Sherry’s presentation she addressed “the remaining issue of low colour that was raised during the sessions on Indexed Colour” and she showed us how to color separate to layers and channels.

Recording Posted: LIVE One Hour Challenge
Chelsea’s latest live design challenge was another success! If you missed it, please watch the recording here.
Here are the supplies that you’ll need:
- paper (preferably something thicker like watercolor paper or card stock)
- collage materials (could be magazine clippings, colored papers, tissue paper etc),
- scissors
- glue
- paint pens or gel pens or acrylic paint (something that would show up on top of collaged papers). Please note that we might not have time for this final step.
Chelsea will be back for another live design challenge on Wednesday, May 26th at 1pm Eastern.

Textile Prints with Fizah Malik: Tile Prints
We are thrilled to announce that we just released a new tutorial in the Lab by the fabulous Fizah Malik!
This is the fourth in a series of tutorials that she has created for the Lab that will be released over the next few months. In this tutorial Fizah shares her technique for creating tile prints.

Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales.
