A Walk In Her Shoes: Georgia O’Keeffe

We are delighted to kick off a new monthly post series for 2021, created by Lab member Stephanie Chauvel (@stephanie-chauvel here in the Lab, @sc_patterndesign on Instagram.) Inspired by Lesson One of The Sellable Sketch where students are asked to identify and “walk in the shoes” of their favorite design hero.

Your assignment is to create a collection or a single pattern inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe or our Georgia O’Keeffe mood board. The images and colors that we are presenting reminded me of Georgia O’Keeffe’s style and were all used in WGSN’s Home Decor A/W 22/23 reports. It’s so interesting to see her style represented in today’s trends!

New Workshop! Illustrator: A Fresh Look

Exciting news! Laura Coyle will be teaching a new Illustrator 6 week course starting April 5, 2021! Grab your spot here. It’s free for TDL members!

The course is for new or occasional Illustrator users, Photoshop users, and anyone who wants a refreshed perspective to better understand how Illustrator works from the ground up, and how it functions alongside the other apps in the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem.

We’ll combine self-paced learning with a weekly live workshop. Every Monday for 6 weeks a PDF for the week’s learning is released, along with a couple of demonstration videos. On Wednesdays at 1pm Eastern, we’ll have a live 2 hour workshop session on Zoom, where I will demonstrate the exercises and concepts, and you’ll have the chance to work alongside me on your own computer, ask questions and share with the group. After the workshop, the recording will be posted on the course page, so you can watch if you missed the live session, or review it whenever you like.

We are all learners at different points in our art practice. I’m hopeful that my Illustrator: A Fresh Look workshop will create meaningful connection and learning for everyone, no matter your prior experience with Illustrator. You’ll have the chance to ask questions and even share your work via screensharing during the live workshop sessions. I look forward to working with you to increase your skills and understanding of Adobe Illustrator!

Textile Prints with Fizah Malik: Tile Prints

We are thrilled to announce that we just released a new tutorial in the Lab by the fabulous Fizah Malik!

This is the fourth in a series of tutorials that she has created for the Lab that will be released over the next few months. In this tutorial Fizah shares her technique for creating tile prints.

Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed the morning of the critique and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
