Creative Excursion Collection Review
Everyone is invited to a live collection review and chat this Tuesday, June 16th at 1pm Eastern. This is a time for us to come together as a community to discuss last month’s Chelsea’s Challenge, which was based off of Rita Patel’s Creative Excursion exercise. If you missed her presentation, please check it out here–it’s super inspiring and will walk you through the steps needed to get started with this challenge–picking a piece of art and an “evocative word” or quality that you want to cultivate.
Members can find the live training link here.
See you there!
Upcoming Event: 2020 Summer of Creativity
It’s back!!! Each year we host a six week Summer of Creativity for our TDL members and I am thrilled to dive into this year’s event!
This year’s Summer of Creativity will be six weeks of self-care for your creative spirit. I’ll have more details next week, but I wanted everyone time to mark their calendars. The event begins on June 22nd.
Please register for this event (it’s free for members) so that you can receive all the bonus emails and information.
Chelsea’s Challenge: Silk Scarves
This month we are focusing Chelsea’s Challenge on a particular product–silk scarves. MaryJane suggested this idea after last week’s art critique where a number of members expressed enthusiasm for designing for scarves. So let’s go for it! Silk scarves are so much fun to design for because they are a different format than most patterns we typically create. They are often square (of course they can be rectangular too) and while they can be all-over patterns, more often than not they are some form of engineered print.
We are providing downloadable Pantones from WGSN’s “Enhanced Nature” and “Everyday Pleasure” palettes for Spring/Summer 2022. As always, these palettes are just provided as a jumping off point and it is not required that you use them.

Fizah Malik‘s live presentation was such an inspiring treat!
Upcoming Event: TDL Coloring Hour
Thanks to everyone who joined us last week for our TDL Coloring Hour. It was a wonderful chance to come together and chat about life and art! Please join us this Friday, June 19th at 1pm Eastern for another coloring event.
Recording Posted: Working with hand-drawn motifs in Illustrator with Laura Coyle
In this presentation Laura answered questions about working with hand-drawn motifs in Illustrator and how to get rid of the “funky parts” that are created when using the Image Trace tool. She also explored compound paths and working with purchased mockups in Illustrator.
New: TDL Community Connect
Our TDL Video Chat room will now be open all day, everyday. Feel free to stop by while you are working on a project or to simply chat with your fellow members!
In the future we might need to have specific meeting times, but I wanted to open this opportunity up to people across various time zones and with different schedules.
Members can grab the link here.
Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed the morning of the critique and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
