New Design Challenge: Ath-Luxe

Happy 2019! To start the year off, we are loving this trend for AW 20/21 that we found on WGSN focusing on the activewear and outdoor market. As WGSN reports: “Tech-glam will become the new ath-luxe as activewear takes on an eveningwear feel, with luxurious fabrics and sparkling embellishments.”

As pattern designers, we get to tackle the question of how to speak to this trend and apply it to surface design. To start off, try looking to current trends in womenswear and brainstorming ways to make them more “ath-luxe.” This could be through a more vibrant, active color palette, adding a digital effect, or perhaps adding a grid or geometric overlay or another “sporty” looking technique. Grab Your Spot: Print Studio Workgroup

Is your portfolio finalized and are you ready to apply to print studios? We’re here to help!

From Tuesday, January 8th- Friday, February 1st the TDL is running its third Print Studio Workgroup. This group will meet on Tuesdays at 11:30am EST for four weeks and will walk you step-by-step through the process of reaching out to print studios for representation.

There will be a short presentation at the beginning of each session with time for questions. Discussions will take place throughout the week on our forum. All sessions will be recorded and posted to the Lab.

The only requirements are that you 1) are a current TDL member and 2) that you have an online portfolio that you are ready to show to print studios! Members can register here.

Weekly Art Critique. Please join Michelle for this week’s live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM EST. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
